Bilateral Relations
Mission Statement
The Embassy of the Republic of Rwanda is the diplomatic representation of Rwanda. As such it represents the country and maintains bilateral relations to Germany, Romania, Slovakia and Ukraine. The Embassy in Berlin equally represents the government of Rwanda on a multilateral level to the European Union.
FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY
Diplomatic relations between Rwanda and Germany were established in 1962. Ever since, there exist close and trust-based ties.
Every 2 years, both countries hold bilateral negotiations to discuss development cooperation priorities. The last bilateral negotiations were held in Kigali on 25-26 October 2022, during which the Government of Germany committed to contribute 98.1 million euros to support Rwanda’s development efforts for the next 2 fiscal years 2022-2024. Priority sectors include climate change, small and medium-sized enterprises, vocational education and training and social protection.
The two sides agreed that Germany’s development cooperation will focus on following areas:
Sustainable economic development, training and employment, Just Transition, Climate and Energy as well as Peace and social cohesion.
A grassroot partnership between the residents of Rhineland- Palatinate and Rwandan citizens exists for more than 40 years.

The Embassy of the Republic of Rwanda in Berlin represents the country on a multilateral level at the European Union.
SLOVAK REPUBLIC
The Embassy of the Republic of Rwanda represents the country to the Slovak Republic. Its main activities are related to maintaining and strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation to Slovakia. It is further more the focal point for issues concerning Rwandans living in Slovakia.
REPUBLIC OF ROMANIA
The Embassy of the Republic of Rwanda represents the country to the Republic of Romania. Its main activities are related to maintaining and strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation to Romania. It is further more the focal point for issues concerning Rwandans living in Romania.
REPUBLIC OF UKRAINE
The Embassy of the Republic of Rwanda represents the country to the Republic of Ukraine. Its main activities are related to maintaining and strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation to Ukraine. It is further more the focal point for issues concerning Rwandans living in Ukraine.
