About RCA
The Rwandan Community Abroad (RCA) is present across the world. Fully realizing the importance of the Rwandan diaspora in the national development, the Government of Rwanda (GoR) strongly believes that the Rwandan diaspora is an important constituent that cannot be ignored and which, if it is well harnessed, can contribute to national socioeconomic development.
Skills accumulated by RCA members are invaluable in terms of the development of a variety of sectors such as health, education and technology.
With the support of the Embassy, different Rwandan community associations have been organizing conventions, cultural events, conferences and business exhibitions to:

RCA Engagements
Rwandan Community Abroad Unit
The Rwanda Community Abroad (RCA) is a Unit at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MINAFFET) that deals on a daily basis with Rwandans living abroad. Rwanda realized the important role Diaspora can play in the areas of financial, virtual and physical transfers, image building, good governance, trade and investments. Currently, there are up to 68 RCA Associations across the globe: Africa (32), Europe (22), Asia (8), America (4), and Oceania (2). Different gatherings and platforms where RCA members are involved in the spirit of contributing to the well-being of their homeland are organized regularly.
The association “Rwandan Diaspora in Germany e.V.”
The association “Rwandan Diaspora in Germany e.V.” (RDD e.V.) is a non-profit, independent and non-denominational registered community in Germany since 2002. RDD e.V. is a German section of the association “Rwandan Diaspora Global Network”. Our association has been entered in the register of associations VR 14554 Cologne since 2002. Our members are active and volunteer.
Diaspora Engagement in the TVET Sector
IOM - UN Migration in Rwanda together with Rwanda Polytechnic, Ministry of Education and Rwanda Ministry of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation (MINAFFET) is implementing a Diaspora Engagement project to support the TVET sector by engaging Rwandan diaspora residing in Belgium and Germany in #IPRCs across the country.

Diaspora Engagement in the Health Sector

Ibuka Germany
Ibuka was formed after the Rwandan genocide in order to better coordinate survivors associations that had come together to help each other overcome the trauma of genocide and rebuild communities. Ibuka, which means "Remember”, is an umbrella organisation of survivors, associations, concerned individuals and other organisations fighting the legacy of the genocide and its effects onto survivors. It aims to contribute to their rehabilitation as well as Rwandan society in general. IBUKA’s work focuses on the following themes: - Justice - Memory - Supporting genocide survivors - Peacebuilding The association IBUKA Germany - Remembrance and Justice aims to remember the genocide against the Tutsi, to support the survivors in Germany psychologically and legally and to stand up for them.
Rwanda Day
Rwanda Day is a sort of gathering where the Rwandan community abroad gets to understand its role in shaping the country’s future. It is attended by Rwandans living abroad, friends of Rwanda, the President and other senior leaders from the public and private sectors Discussions held during ‘Rwanda Day’ focus on the country’s development goals, business environment and opportunities available for those wanting to be part of a country on the move. The first Rwanda Day was held in 2010 in Brussels – Belgium and since has been held in several cities around the globe and was attended by over 30,000 people since its launch. The last Rwanda Day was held in Bonn in October 2019 and was organized with the Rwandan Diaspora members.
Umushyikirano
The word Umushyikirano translates to a meeting where participants are able to exchange ideas, share experiences and question each other. Today it is known as the National Dialogue Council and is one of the Rwandan home grown initiative which offers a forum where His Excellency the President, along with national leaders and citizens debate issues relating to the state of the nation, the state of local government and national unity. Representatives of Rwandans Living Abroad participate in Umushyikirano and RCA Unit mobilise them. The Dialogue usually takes place in the second week of December.
Rwanda Diaspora Global Network (RDGN)
Rwanda Diaspora Global Network (RDGN) has been in place for the last 10 years as an umbrella association of Rwanda communities abroad. In 2017, an interim committee was elected.
National Itorero Commision (NIC)
The ITORERO program envisions a population with a value system that promotes voluntary service to the nation with the aim of promoting unity, tolerance, patriotism, democratic governance that lead to sustainable social and economic transformation.
The program's mission to Rwandans is to make them understand their shared values in their coexistence, be patriot and contribute to national development and to train men as well as women to engage in a leadership that promotes the values and strive to become
the best performers.
