Africa Women Day 2023: Ambassador Igor CESAR moderates joint dialogue at Angolan Embassy
Friday 04th August 2023 - Ambassador Igor CESAR participated as moderator in a joint dialogue at the African Women's Day event held at the Embassy of Angola in Berlin.
Together with the outgoing Ambassador of Mali, H.E. Oumou Sall-Seck and the Defence Attaché of South Africa, Lesejane Ramapulane, they spoke about the role of women in peacebuilding and conflict prevention.
The Ambassador thanked the host Ambassador of Angola, H.E. Balbina Malheiros Dias da Silva, for her invitation as moderator, and introduced the meeting with Rwanda's achievements in gender equality, such as the 61.3% of women in Parliament, one of the highest numbers of female political representation in the world, as well as the 6,000 Rwandan women in UN peacekeeping missions, deployed from 2021.
Special guest Eunice Lipinge, President of the Pan-African Women's Organisation, sent her video communication stressing the need to bring to the table the UN Security Council Resolution 1325, which addresses the need for gender-sensitive approaches to peace and stability in post-conflict contexts, whose revision offers policy makers the opportunity to move beyond the rhetoric of gender mainstreaming and start putting words into practice.
On its 61st anniversary, Africa Women Day 2023 served as a celebration of the struggles and conquests achieved by women under this year's theme: "Harnessing the wisdom of women to build peace and accelerate the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA)".
The evening was full of cultural moments with live music by the Bantu Riots band and a fashion show by the fashion designer Annie Rivel.
