Marriage


Civil Marriage in your Embassy


 

Congratulations on your engagement! 

 

Engaged couples register to be married before the law 21 days before the legal marriage takes place. If there are no objections, the couple marries and embassy officials provide a marriage record.

If you wish to celebrate your civil marriage in the Embassy:

  • kindly notify your Embassy about your preferred civil marriage day at least two months in advance
  • and apply via the platform IREMBO under marriage declaration services:

Marriage Certificate


The marriage Certificate is the official document that identifies that a couple is legally married. For application for a marriage certificate please apply via IREMBO:

Marriage Registration


To register your marriage in Rwanda please apply via IREMBO platform under marriage record:

Please submit to IREMBO:

  • your original marriage certificate pre-legalized by the Federal Administration Office (BfAA - Bundesamt für Auswärtige Angelegenheiten)
  • translated marriage certificate also pre-legalized by the Federal Administration Office (BfAA - Bundesamt für Auswärtige Angelegenheiten)

Kindly note that your marriage certificate has also to be legalized by the Embassy via IREMBO before submission.


Certificate of Being Single


This certificate is the official document that declares that an individual is single. It can be used to apply for services like legal marriage registration, bank loan, insurance, etc. Make your application via IREMBO:

Certificate of No Impediment


All persons not registered in their country of residence but marrying there require a Certificate of no impediment to marriage, stating that they are legally free to marry.
